WORKING WITH LIGHT
A series of 3 day stained glass courses in Mollie Meager’s new strawbale workshop in the Forest of Dean. The first day explores design ideas and the descriptions below show how we will begin before moving onto glass. It is a chance to let go of preconceptions and make something unexpected and experimental.
Fri. evg. 24th – Mon. 27th Feb
Life and Light. Rose, our life model will work with us when she is not modelling. Ken Stanway will offer an option to respond to the work of major artists such as Picasso and Matisse.
Fri. evg. 30th March – Mon. 2nd April.
Working with Light. Catrin Davies will join us exploring markmaking in the paddock around the workshop and on the windows of the workshop itself, playing with light and the view beyond.
Fri. evg. 27th – Sun 29th April
From Language to Visual Art. Interpreting the visual using written language to then produce work based on recorded observations. Ken will lead the first day of this course
Fri. evg. 25th –Mon. 28th May
Enamelling on Glass. Penny Somerville is an artist who works across the boundaries of painting and glass design. Her work is inspired by a love of colour. On this course, painting and drawing in the landscape will provide a starting point for working on glass with enamels.
Fri. evg. 29th June – Mon. 2nd July
Memories and Dreams: Davina Kirkpatrick. The use of narrative and found objects in glass. This course will begin with writing and lead into the creation of memorial panels using a variety of glass processes and techniques including glass painting and kiln forming.
All courses will begin on the Friday evening when you will be invited to join us for supper. The tutor will use this opportunity to introduce you to the theme of the course. This evening gives us an opportunity to meet each other before the fun begins!
