Artist Statement

I am a painter and trained in the 1960's as an Interior Designer and Mural Artist. I began my career as a mural artist and calligraphy teacher before moving to glass in 1990 after training in Stained Glass at the West of England Academy, Queens Road, Bristol with Mark Angus. Since then I have mainly worked in glass

I am an architectural glass artist and my interest is in light, colour and space. The glass that I use is clear with a thin layer of coloured glass on its surface. By etching the glass, the colour is removed, so I am painting with light. Paint is added to block out the light and by silver staining, colours are added from yellow through to amber.

Sandblasting and engraving holds the eye on the glass, and obscure the world beyond. So I am interested in the way the glass interacts with the world beyond the glass. In some circumstances, I use other methods such as Dalle de Verre, laminating, enamelling and applique.

I also enjoy storytelling which I do on glass, pottery and paper and sometimes on walls as murals
